Doorway Into My Life: April

This is my ongoing roundup from my 365 photo project where I take a photo a day from my life. I post the pics via Tumblr and Instagram for your viewing pleasure but I decided to give you the rundown at the end of each month to reflect.  Admittedly there are at least a few days each month where I’m unable to get a pic but this is the most consistent I’ve been about anything in a long time!

April recap::  I sucked at taking pictures this month but I did enjoy some nature, fashion and art.  On to the next one!

Somestimes I Suck And It’s Not Ok

Sometimes I suck and that’s ok, not so much at the moment…

What’s a good creative solution for when your mind is in a rut?  I don’t know.  I’ve found myself in this place over and over.  I’m sure you’ve taken notice.  Ideas come and go but nothing comes to fruition.  I find myself in a daze wandering through life aimlessly.  Attainable goals but unattainable ambition.  Where is my drive?  I take a stroll on a sunny but windy day to clear my head.  Nothing.  I flip through magazines, scour the internet reading blog post after blog post.  Some of my daily reads and some of those advice posts on what to do when you have a creative block or need topics for a post.  Nothing still.  I sift through old sketches to see past glories and remind myself of what I can do and where I can go.  It’s not enough.  I go through these highs and lows so often that maybe this is just my norm.  On a roll and then I slow down and come to a halt.  Sometimes a halt is good because going through life on high-speed will wear you out.  Everyone needs time for themselves, time to cherish life.  However I find I halt a little too often.  I don’t want this to be my norm anymore but I haven’t figured out yet how to change that.  Slow and steady wins the race? A race I don’t know how long I’m in, so shouldn’t I be sprinting ahead?

This is all I have to share with you today, that and a few quick sketches I managed in my angst:

Tomorrow I’ll try again.

Doorway Into My Life: March

This is my ongoing roundup from my 365 photo project where I take a photo a day from my life. I post the pics via Tumblr and Instagram for your viewing pleasure but I decided to give you the rundown at the end of each month to reflect.  Admittedly there are at least a few days each month where I’m unable to get a pic but this is the most consistent I’ve been about anything in a long time!

March recap::  Where winter gave way to summer and, nature, rabbits and scarves are always fair game.  I dabbled a bit more into my personal style too which I hope you enjoy since this is a fashion related blog.

Scarf Storage And Display

It’s been a minute since I’ve mentioned the love of my life: scarves.  Anyone who has followed me for a while may remember earlier posts showcasing my collection.  Anyhow as my collection has grown I’ve been at a loss about how to best store them.  For the longest time I kept them all in a zip up see through bag but then upgraded to hanging them in my closet.  The best I could come up with was a couple of hangers full of scarves however this was a nightmare for many reasons:  first, I have limited closet-bar space and ended up needing at least 4 hangers which really cramped things up;  second, removal of scarves became cumbersome as when I reached for one the balance on the hanger would be thrown off and the next thing I knew half of my scarves were on the floor.  It was hard to readily see the scarves on the inner side of the hanger making it more time-consuming to get dressed.

I couldn’t take the madness anymore and needed a better storage system.  I toyed around with many ideas including shelving or cubbies but I could never find any I liked.  Finally while on a recent shopping trip I happened upon some garment racks and spontaneously thought they were the solution for me.  I went ahead and bought one, set it up and here is the result:

Now that it’s all said and done I have mixed feelings about the results:

Pros:

  • I can readily see all of my scarves making it easy to grab one on the fly and accessorize.
  • The extendable arms at the top rack allow me to hang my infinity (circle) scarves without having to fold them over.
  • The rack covers up unsightly plaster spots on my wall which need to be painted over.

Cons:

  • I’m not sure I like how much space this rack takes up (it takes up a whole side of my wall).  It’s two-tiered with extendable arms at the top-tier which I had to extend to accommodate all of my scarves.
  • The top rack is much wider than the bottom which may cause stability issues.
  • I don’t know if this set-up aesthetically pleasing.

I’m thinking of trading this one out for a 2 tiered rack where the racks are side by side instead of one on top of another.  What do you think?  Should I keep this or try something else?  Do you have any storage solution ideas for scarves?

Doorway Into My Life: February

This is my ongoing roundup from my 365 photo project where I take a photo a day from my life. I post the pics via Tumblr and Instagram for your viewing pleasure but I decided to give you the rundown at the end of each month to reflect.  I’m short 2 pics this month because I forgot or was sadly too busy and tired to muster up a shot.

February recap::  Caught up with old friends, nom-ed on sweet and spicy treats, spent time with my furry friends living and plush, connected with nature, worked on some projects and enjoyed some quality TV shows among other things.
